Evening has come to the residents of Pine Valley. Everyone is looking forward to tonight's Sunrise Flowers gala. Meanwhile across town. The elevator doors at the Pine Valley Gazette ding open, and Laura walks into the offices. She goes into Miguel’s office.

MIGUEL: (standing) Hey.

LAURA: Hey.

MIGUEL: I see you aren’t dressed for tonight’s gala.

LAURA: I’m not going.

MIGUEL: I thought you were covering?

LAURA: Plans have changed, boss.

At David’s Penthouse, Cara walks up to the door. She calmly knocks. David walks to the door, as he gets off the couch. David opens the door.

DAVID: Cara. What are you doing here?

CARA: I need to speak with you.

DAVID: About?

CARA: Why you didn’t bother to show up for our son when he was in the hospital, because he decided to snort cocaine.

At Brooke’s House, Brooke is putting on diamond earrings in the mirror. There is a knock at the door. She politely walks over, and answers.

BROOKE: Adam, you caught me at a bad time. I was just going to the gala.

ADAM: I had a feeling you were. But, we need to talk.

BROOKE: Adam…

ADAM: Brooke, it is very important.

BROOKE: What is this in regards to?

ADAM: I think I’m ready to have the surgery.

At ConFusion, Miranda walks in and sees Spike at the bar. She goes up to him, and sits with him. She sets her purse on the bar top.

MIRANDA: First drugs. Now this.

SPIKE: How in the hell did you hear that?

MIRANDA: Word gets around.

The camera moves to the other side of the bar. Diane’s wine is refilled.

DIANE: I can’t believe this.

NINA: I bet this is quite a shock.

DIANE: It is.

NINA: You are probably wondering what to do, now.

DIANE: I am.

NINA: Do you want to know what I think?

DIANE: Sure.

NINA: Let’s go to Opal’s home.

Back in Miguel’s Office, Laura stuff files into a box, and puts the box in a closet.

MIGUEL: Listen, you have to cover this event.

LAURA: No, I don’t.

MIGUEL: This is huge for Pine Valley, huge for you, huge for the paper. Plus, I am your boss. You have to do what I say.

LAURA: Not in the mood right now.

MIGUEL: Why not?

LAURA: Do you wanna know why I don’t feel like getting dressed up tonight, or covering some big gala? It is because I remembered that I don’t get to these things with a wife anymore. Today, I talked about Gina for the first time since the accident.

MIGUEL: To who?

LAURA: Her name is Katrina. She is a new here just like me.

MIGUEL: Friends?

LAURA: We are now. Listen, I don’t want to carry on about this. Katrina needs a job.

MIGUEL: Well, she can have it.

LAURA: Just like that?

MIGUEL: She made you talk about your feelings. Laura you won’t even show anything on the surface. If she can make you do that, then imagine how good her articles can be.

LAURA: I guess you’re right.

MIGUEL: Of course I am. And, don’t worry about the gala.

LAURA: Thank you.

Back at ConFusion, Spike takes a sip of his drink.

MIRANDA: I didn’t mean to judge you.

SPIKE: Yes, you did.

MIRANDA: Spike, I have known you since I was a baby. I was there when you lost your hearing. I was there when we recited that poem for our school assembly. I know you, so well. That is why I care about you. Drugs are a slippery slope.

SPIKE: Who are you right now?

MIRANDA: A friend.

SPIKE: You sound like Mrs. Jameson from fifth hour Health.

MIRANDA: Well, I’m not. Mrs. Jameson can teach you, but she isn’t there through the hard times. And, I can see that this is a hard time.

SPIKE: It is nothing to freak over.

MIRANDA: You sound exactly like my great uncle Mark.

SPIKE: What about him?

MIRANDA: He had an addiction to cocaine a long time ago. It wrecked his life.

SPIKE: I’m not some old man.

MIRANDA: It doesn’t matter what age you are. Listen, I was gonna go to that gala tonight. But, I’m not going to now.

SPIKE: Why is that?

MIRANDA: Because, I’m gonna stand by you.

Back at David’s Penthouse, David and Cara walk into the living room.

CARA: David, I left you message after message. And, you didn’t even bother to show up. This is a time when your son needed you the most.

DAVID: I was working.

CARA: No you were not.

DAVID: What does that mean?

CARA: You don’t think I’ve heard?

DAVID: Heard what?

CARA: That you are back with Krystal. Which by the way, slap in the face. I bared all to you…

DAVID: You don’t love me!

CARA: Bull shit! I love you David! I will scream it from the rooftops! I love you!

DAVID: Cara…

CARA: I don’t care what you have done. You have always been the love of my life.

Cara and David are calm and silent for a second. Then, Cara kisses David passionately.

Back at Brooke’s Penthouse, Brooke and Adam are sitting on the sofa.

BROOKE: I’m very proud of you, Adam.

ADAM: I kinda had a light bulb go off in my mind.

BROOKE: Really?

ADAM: Yes.

BROOKE: What made you want to do this?

ADAM: Well, I got things in order.

BROOKE: What does that mean?

ADAM: I made Colby the CEO of Chandler International. She leaves for Paris tonight. And, I made JR the CEO of Chandler Enterprises…, here.

BROOKE: You did what?! Are you insane Adam Chandler?

Brooke is in complete and utter shock. She does not know what to express.
