All My Children - Episode 43
Created By: Agnes Nixon

Directed By: James A. Baffico
Afternoon has fallen upon Pine Valley. At the PVPD, Jesse is just about to cuff Katrina, when Liza speaks up.
JESSE: For what? She just admitted she shot you.
LIZA: I know. But, I need a minute.
JESSE: A minute for what?
LIZA: Katrina and I are going to have a little chat.
KATRINA: We are? Why?
LIZA: Because, I understand exactly what you are going through.
---
At the Pine Valley Cazzette, Laura is in her brand new office. She is unpacking boxes, as Miguel enters. She turns back, once she hears him knock at the door.
LAURA: Hey, boss.
MIGUEL: Hello, Laura. Glad you could show up today.
LAURA: Oh, of course. I am ready to get to work.
MIGUEL: Good, because I already have your first assignment.
LAURA: And, what is my first assignment?
MIGUEL: Exposing my father’s illness.
---
At Tad and Dixie’s Home, Dixie enters the living room. It is made apparent that she has just arrived home. She goes into the living room.
DIXIE: Oh good. You are here.
TAD: Yeah. You seem frazzled. You okay?
DIXIE: Not really?
TAD: What’s wrong, sweetheart?
DIXIE: JR is acting extremely odd.
---
---
At the Chandler Mansion, Brooke and Adam enter the living room.
BROOKE: So, why did you call me over? Is everything okay?
ADAM: Yes, everything is fine.
BROOKE: Okay, so what’s up?
ADAM: Why is Miguel here?
---
At the Pine Valley Park, Oliver walks over to Spike.
OLIVER: Hey man.
SPIKE: Hey.
OLIVER: You got it for me?
SPIKE: Yeah.
Spike then gives Oliver a tiny bag of cocaine, as Oliver hands him money.
OLIVER: Thanks.
SPIKE: Use it wisely.
---
Back in Laura’s Office, Laura leans up against her desk, and folds her arms.
LAURA: Miguel, I know that you and your father started off to a rocky start last night, because he accused you of only wanting to be the CEO of Chandler. But, exposing his illness to the world is not right. So, out of respect to not only you, but your father; I will not do this story.
MIGUEL: I had a feeling you would say that. And, I’m sorry for even mentioning it. It has just been a long day, so far.
LAURA: You have had a lot to think about since you arrived back in Pine Valley. I understand some of the stress you are going through.
MIGUEL: Really?
LAURA: Yeah. In fact, our situations lineup more than you think.
MIGUEL: How so?
LAURA: Well, I did not see my mom again, up until she was dying. The reason I never saw her, is because I was given up for adoption; as soon as I was born. One day, I get a call. It was from this lady. She told me she was dying of stage four breast cancer. When I asked her why in the hell she was calling me, she told me the truth.
MIGUEL: Laura, I’m so sorry that you had to find out who your birth mother was from that way. I cannot imagine that. I can’t even fathom.
LAURA: It was a pretty odd way to meet my mother.
MIGUEL: I’m sure it was.
LAURA: Now, enough about me. Let’s get back to you. I want you to tell me that this newspaper outlet will not publish any story on your father’s illness.
MIGUEL: Even though I am the boss of this paper, you have my word.
LAURA: Good. I’m glad to hear that. So, what is my new assignment.
MIGUEL: Um…why don’t you cover the opening of that new club on 53rd and Jefferson. You know, RainDance?
LAURA: Yeah, no problem.
MIGUEL: Awesome. Column, 500 words. Deadline is tomorrow at 6 p.m.
LAURA: Alright. You got it.
Miguel nods, and politely walks out. Laura then begins to unpack more boxes. She comes across of a picture of her and her mother. Laura let’s out a calming sigh.
---
Back at the PVPD, Liza and Katrina are sitting on waiting chairs. Jesse is watching them from his office. A police officer crosses in front of them.
KATRINA: I truly do not know why you wanted to talk to the woman who shot you, out off all the people in this world.
LIZA: Katrina, I wanted to talk to you, because we share something in common. We share something that so many people have forgotten about me, because it happened about 33 years ago. In fact, 33 years ago, tomorrow.
KATRINA: What happened to you?
LIZA: I was raped.
KATRINA: Liza...my god. I had no idea.
LIZA: Like I said, many people have forgotten about it. But, I have been in the same situation that you are right now. I was raped by a low life truck driver, who never went to prison for what he did to me.
KATRINA: My god. How do you live?
LIZA: Well, being raped gave me a drive to protect people. It gave me a drive to help humans who were going through my same situation.
KATRINA: Listen, I am sorry I shot you. I was just so angry…
LIZA: I know you were. I know. I know what that anger feels like. Not too many people know that I also accused Chief Hubbard of rape, because they were not finding the man who had raped me.
KATRINA: Did you really?
LIZA: (sniffles) Yeah. So, as you can see; you are not the only one to be put in this tragic situation, and then do something completely drastic.
KATRINA: Wow.
LIZA: Anyways, I do have some good news for you.
KATRINA: There is good news out of this situation?
LIZA: (sighs) Yes, there is. And, this good news is that all charges against you are being dropped, only on one condition.
KATRINA: Oh my goodness...wow. What is the one condition?
LIZA: That you attend therapy. Get all of your feelings out, that you need to.
KATRINA: Liza, thank you.
LIZA: Of course.
Katrina and Liza hug.
---
Back at the Chandler Mansion, Brooke sets her handbag down on the table.
BROOKE: I don’t know.
ADAM: You don’t know?
BROOKE: (sighs) I did tell Miguel that you are sick. But, there was nothing about coming here to see you in Pine Valley.
ADAM: That never crossed into the conversation?
BROOKE: No, it did not.
While Adam ponders on more questions, Brooke gets a beeping notification on her phone. She picks up her purse, retrieves her phone, and turns her phone on.
BROOKE: Oh my goodness.
ADAM: What?
BROOKE: I know why Miguel is here.
ADAM: Why is that?
BROOKE: Because, he bought all the right to the Pine Valley Cazzette.
ADAM: You have got to be kidding me.
BROOKE: His head reporter is a Laura Templeton.
ADAM: You know what we have to do?
BROOKE: What?
ADAM: We have to go visit Miguel.
BROOKE: You’re right. Let’s go.
Brooke grabs her purse. Her and Adam walk off.
---
Back at Pine Valley Park, Spike and Oliver are snorting cocaine in the park restroom. The two are getting quite an extreme high off of the drug.
---
Back at Tad and Dixie’s Home, Tad and Dixie are now sitting on the couch.
TAD: So, how was JR acting odd?
DIXIE: Well, JR and I have repaired our relationship since what happened six years ago. Everything has been fine. He has always showed much affection toward me, and today that slipped.
TAD: What do you mean?
DIXIE: Well, I went to see him to tell him that we were trying to have another baby. He was okay with that. At the end of our conversation I told him that I loved him. I always do. He did not even say anything back, and that is not like JR.
TAD: Maybe, he was just having another tough day.
DIXIE: But, he would have told me about it.
TAD: So, what do you think is going on?
Tad sits up more intrigued.
DIXIE: I only have one guess.
TAD: What is that one guess?
DIXIE: I think my son has fallen off the wagon. I think JR is drinking again.
The camera zooms in on a worried Dixie.
